Beacon Gives Back to Low Vision in 2022
We’re happy to announce that PanAmerican Seed's Beacon® Impatiens brand has donated to two amazing organizations this year: Macular Society in the UK and Spectrios Institute for Low Vision in Wheaton, IL. It is thanks to wonderful gardeners like you, growing Beacon in your own outdoor shaded spaces and patios, that this is all possible.
This year, our charitable give-back campaign raised over $81,000.00 (US). Both charities were presented a check on behalf of PanAmerican Seed and Beacon Impatiens. With this generous donation, they can continue fighting low vision issues and macular degeneration, a disease that affects millions of people worldwide.
According to Executive Director for Spectrios Dr. R. Tracy Williams, “We recently had a patient in our office who had sold his business, retired and thought his life was over. After he left, he wished he visited us sooner because we were able to help him go back to work and do things he loves. We hear stories like this every day. This donation will help individuals with low vision lead full, independent and productive lives and enable us to keep our programs affordable, sustainable and accessible to those in need.”
“We’re hugely grateful to PanAmerican Seed for this very generous donation, which makes a real difference to the lives of those living with macular disease,” said Cathy Yelf, CEO of Macular Society. “Donations such as this mean we can continue to provide vital support services to those affected, as well as fund groundbreaking research so we can beat macular disease for good.”
Lesser-known organizations like Spectrios and Macular Society have the ability to change lives through donations that our gardeners have directly impacted and contributed. Thank you!
A new charity will be announced soon for the upcoming sales season. Be on the lookout for the special announcement and how you can help us continue "shining the light" on another worthy cause in 2023.
